The 7 Weirdest Concept Cars of 2016

The engineers and designers like to get creative and push the envelope when it comes to their concept-car designs. Whether they are advancing new ideas on the design on the interiors, concept cars offer an interesting look at the future of transportation. But this year, there were a few eyebrow-raising concepts.

1. Toyota introduced an all wood concept car earlier this year. It's made up of 86 handmade panels and uses a technique called "Okuriari" (meaning they were put together using joints instead of nails). The car is capable of driving, but is not "street legal" since it is made of wood.

2. Another by Toyota: This is the uBox. It's a boxy, all-electric SUV. Toyota says it's geared toward the young entrepreneur as it offers "office space". The seats can be moved around to make room for working and panels on the inside can be reconfigured to add features like vents and door trims.

3.The Rolls-Royce Vision 100 looks sleek but has some strange design features, like it's boxed wheel area. The concept is completely autonomous and offers a 2-person sofa and a very large screen TV.

4. Farady Future unveiled a concept car that looks like a cross between a racing car and a batmobile. The interior is a one-seater "cockpit" with seats at a 45-degree angle. The steering wheel resembles a race car. This car is not intended for production.

5.The McLaren 675LT JVCKenwood looks beautiful and sleek on the outside (also resembling a batmoblie) and has a steering wheel that looks like a video game controller. It also has two cameras on the sides in place of rearview mirrors.

6. The Audi connected-mobility concept car is on the list because of it's creative (and somewhat useless) feature of integrating a longboard into the bumper. It also has a system that calculates the best route and tells you if it would be shorter to use the longboard, instead. It can even offer parking suggestions for the "longboard portion" of your commute. While I know a few people who would find this feature incredibly useful, it is definitely a bizarre and specific feature.

7.1960 Jeep FC 150 concept is an old-school look but underneath it's sporting a 2005 Jeep Wrangler for awesome off-roading capabilities. The interior has vinyl seating, a headliner wrapped in duck-hunting patterns, and an analog compass.

I don't think the mainstream public is ready for these cars to hit the road anytime soon. But you do have to appreciate the creativity of car designers and engineers.
