The 2017 Tesla Model 3. Behold: The Future

In 2006, Elon Musk published a blog post outlining his long-term vision for Tesla, a company that designs and manufactures completely Electric Vehicles. “The strategy of Tesla is to enter at the high end of the market, where customers are prepared to pay a premium,” Musk wrote. “Then, we’ll drive down market as fast as possible to higher unit volume and lower prices with each successive model.” And it seems that his dream will soon be realized with the launch of the forthcoming Tesla Model 3. While the car is still being finalized, we do have some pretty sexy prototypes to drool over. Back in March, Tesla unveiled the Model 3, and it is glorious. Check out the video below for an in-depth look.

First, (and arguably most importantly) the Model 3 is the most affordable Tesla car, yet, starting at only $35,000 before incentives. It also goes 0-60 in under 6 seconds and can go for 215 miles on a single charge (more expensive versions will go faster and longer). The nose of the car was designed to be aerodynamic to maximize fuel efficiency. It seats 5 adults comfortably. The whole exterior of the car is extremely smooth. There are 2 beams on the top of the car, but most of the glass roof (yeah, I said "glass roof") is one, continuous slope.

As for other specs, the Model 3 comes with supercharging and Autopilot standard, but you'll have to pay extra for Autopilot's 'convenience features,'. It also comes with a 15-inch touchscreen display that provides information, navigation, and entertainment. There are no buttons or gauges on this car. It's all on the touchscreen. Though there is a rumor that Tesla plans to include a standard "heads-up" display that will allow the driver to view speed, range and other crucial info - directly on the windshield.

Tesla expects to begin building the mass-market sedan within the next 18 months. But you can reserve yours for a (refundable) $1,000 today, on their website.
